How to install a travel eSIM without losing your primary SIM settings
Install the eSIM while you still have reliable internet, but follow the provider’s activation rule before turning it on. The exact menu labels vary by phone model and operating-system version.

Before you start
Confirm that your phone supports eSIM, is not locked to another carrier and can connect to Wi-Fi. Keep the provider email, QR code or manual activation details available on a second screen or as a printed copy.
- Do not delete an installed eSIM unless the provider confirms it can be reissued.
- Record which line is your primary SIM and which is the travel eSIM.
- Check whether activation begins at installation, first network connection or a stated date.

Install with a QR code
On iPhone, open Settings, Cellular or Mobile Service, then Add eSIM. On Android, open the SIM or mobile-network settings and choose the option to add an eSIM. Scan the provider QR code and wait until the phone confirms that the mobile plan was added.
A QR code is often intended for one installation. If scanning fails, stop before repeatedly deleting and re-adding the plan; use the provider’s manual activation details or support channel.

Choose the correct line settings
Keep your primary line selected for calls and messages if you still need your normal number. Select the travel eSIM for cellular data only when you are ready to use it. Turn off cellular-data switching so the phone does not silently use the primary SIM for data.

After arrival
Turn on the travel eSIM, select it for cellular data and enable data roaming for that travel line when the provider requires roaming. Leave roaming disabled on your primary line unless your home carrier plan explicitly includes the destination.

If the eSIM does not connect
Restart the phone, confirm that the travel line and data roaming are enabled, check the APN instructions and try automatic network selection first. If the provider lists a specific partner network, select it manually only after checking those instructions.
